About Toby

My military career spans 30 years in both the United States Air Force and the New York Air National Guard. This includes serving in Iraq from 2006-2007 as the Assistant Fire Chief and working with Iraqis to foster lasting relationships, provide basic needs and medical assistance, and obtain vital intelligence for the US government. I am also a former Deputy Fire Chief for the New York Air National Guard, and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

I retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department Police Division in 2011 after a long and rewarding career that gave me a variety of experience. During my seven years as a Sergeant, I supervised deputies and managed day-to-day operations and critical incidents. Prior to that I also served as Sheriff Field Training Officer, Detective in the Fugitive Task Force, and Patrol Deputy.

I am a resident of Otisco, where I manage the cattle farm that has been in my family for about 200 years. I am also a volunteer for the Otisco Fire Department, the town historian, and a member of my local Masonic lodge.

As the only candidate in this race who has experience as a member of the Sheriff’s Department, a Firefighter and a Veteran, I will bring to the office of Sheriff a lifetime of community service.
